[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 5th that the 1st Urban and Architectural Joint Committee's Authorized Subcommittee, held on the 3rd, reviewed and approved with modifications the district unit plan decision for the area around 60 Jeonnong-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul.
The target site is located near several educational institutions, including the Eastern Education Support Office, Jeongok Elementary School, and Haeseong Girls' High School. The plan was promoted based on residents' proposals to improve the residential environment of the aging and deteriorated low-rise housing cluster.
Through the designation of the district unit plan area this time, a total of 500 apartment units will be built on the 25,980㎡ site, consisting of 10 buildings ranging from 2 basement floors to 20 above-ground floors. There are also plans to construct elderly welfare facilities to provide community welfare services.
Additionally, public sidewalks and pedestrian spaces within the site have been further secured in connection with existing pedestrian areas. The walking environment on school routes around the site will be improved to provide safer commuting paths for students.
