LGU+ Haeji Customer Information Also Leaked... Total 290,000 People

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The scale of the LG Uplus personal information leak that occurred last month has been confirmed to be a total of 290,000 people. This is 110,000 more than the initial announcement.


LG Uplus stated on its website notice on the 3rd, "We are providing additional guidance as about 110,000 users' information, which could not be identified at the time, was found in the data of canceled customers stored separately based on the Electronic Commerce Protection Act, etc."

Previously, LG Uplus announced on the 10th of last month that personal information of 180,000 customers had been leaked. Thus, the total number of LG Uplus users whose personal information was leaked is 290,000.


LG Uplus obtained data containing personal information of about 290,000 people from illegal sellers last month. Among them, 180,000 were confirmed to be LG Uplus customers, and this was announced on the website along with the provision of a leak item inquiry system.


However, the remaining 110,000 users' information, which could not be identified at the time, was found in the canceled customer data stored separately based on the Electronic Commerce Protection Act, etc.


LG Uplus stated, "The range of included items is the same as before, but there are individual differences in detail, and financial-related information is not included."


Regarding this personal information leak, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Cyber Investigation Unit, the Personal Information Protection Commission, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) are conducting investigations.


LG Uplus said, "We fully empathize with the inconvenience caused by the personal information leak incident," and added, "We will strengthen the monitoring system to prevent the same incident from happening again and do our best to prepare countermeasures according to the investigation results of related organizations."
