Wonju City Launches Signature Pledge of the 8th Elected Term: Attracting an International School

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Wonju City in Gangwon Province has launched full-scale activities to attract an international school, a key pledge of the 8th local government.

On the 4th, Wonju City announced, "Mayor Won Kang-soo visited Jeju English Education City and Healthcare Town regarding the designation and operation of the 'International Education Special Zone' and the creation of a 'Digital Healthcare Ecosystem,' which are scheduled to be reflected in the major special provisions of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province."


During his visit to St. John's Beria Academy Jeju (SJA Jeju), an international school located in Jeju English Education City, Mayor Won expressed his commitment to expanding educational infrastructure through fostering advanced industries such as semiconductor factories and attracting international schools.


Jeju English Education City, developed as an international education hub, aims to establish the best educational infrastructure in Northeast Asia to promote Jeju as an international free city.


Mayor Won then visited Jeju Healthcare Town and stated, "As various medical industries such as non-face-to-face remote medical care are being fostered, we plan to lead the digital healthcare industry with the launch of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province by referring to Jeju's case."


The global complex medical tourism complex, Jeju Healthcare Town, was designated as a core project under the 2006 Jeju International Free City Comprehensive Plan.


Meanwhile, Mayor Won and other benchmarking participants attended a special lecture by Kang Chang-min, Senior Researcher at Jeju Research Institute, on the topic of 'Experiences and Challenges of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.'


Through the lecture, Senior Researcher Kang shared with the Wonju delegation the experiences leading up to the launch of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, key special provisions, future challenges, and offered various advice for the successful launch of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
