Foreigners 'Hesitate' · Institutional Selling... KOSPI Starts Slightly Lower

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 3rd, the KOSPI started slightly lower, falling below the 2470 level.


As of 9:21 a.m., the KOSPI was trading at 2464.32, down 4.56 points (-0.18%) from the previous session.


At the beginning of the session, the KOSPI opened at 2462.39, down 6.49 points (0.26%). It then fluctuated around the 2470 level. The previous day, the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) slowed the pace of tightening by raising interest rates by 0.25 percentage points, leading to a rise in the U.S. stock market. However, after the market closed, companies such as Apple, Amazon, and Alphabet reported earnings that fell short of market expectations, which is interpreted as limiting the extent of the gains.


Looking at trading trends by investor type, individuals and foreigners are net buyers of 121.2 billion KRW and 22.1 billion KRW respectively, while institutions are net sellers of 143.3 billion KRW.


Among the top market capitalization stocks on the KOSPI, Samsung Electronics is trading up 0.47% at 63,800 KRW, and LG Energy Solution is up 0.56% at 536,000 KRW. On the other hand, SK Hynix is down 0.43% at 93,000 KRW, and LG Chem is down 1.04% at 669,000 KRW. Hyundai Motor is up 0.29%, NAVER up 1.42%, and Kakao up 1.09%.


By sector, construction showed the largest gain at 0.50%, followed by services (0.44%), non-metallic minerals (0.15%), and electrical & electronics (0.13%). The sector with the largest decline was telecommunications, down 1.78% compared to the previous day, followed by securities (-1.33%), steel & metals (-0.96%), and chemicals (-0.94%).


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index stood at 762.70, down 1.92 points (-0.25%) from the previous session. In the KOSDAQ market, individuals are net buyers of 90 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions are net sellers of 32.3 billion KRW and 52.8 billion KRW respectively.


Among the top 10 market capitalization groups in KOSDAQ, Ecopro BM (0.09%), Kakao Games (0.96%), Ecopro (0.84%), Pearl Abyss (0.84%), and Osstem Implant (0.21%) are rising, while Celltrion Healthcare (-1.15%), L&F (-0.69%), HLB (-0.16%), Rino Industrial (-1.52%), and JYP Entertainment (-0.83%) are falling, showing mixed stock price movements.
