The province announced on the 3rd, "With the commencement of the Chuncheon~Sokcho East-West High-Speed Railway and the Gangneung~Jejin Donghae Bukbu Line, we have established a cooperative system with the counties to revitalize the development of station areas in the neglected county regions."

The target areas for the development project are five counties along the Chuncheon~Sokcho East-West High-Speed Railway line?Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje?and the Gangneung~Jejin Donghae Bukbu Line?Goseong, Yangyang?which are relatively disadvantaged in terms of public and private investment compared to city areas.

The province formed a working-level consultative body with public officials in charge of station area development in these regions and discussed concrete station area project plans, including public contest projects and linkage projects with national funding, based on a specialization strategy service for the station area characteristics.

In particular, to maximize the effect of station area development, since it is necessary to discover specialized projects for the counties before the station openings, the province and the counties agreed to hold regular working meetings for the concrete realization of the projects.

Additionally, to prevent local extinction, they plan to devise specialized self-development plans suited to the county conditions, such as tourism, housing, culture, welfare, and senior citizen services, to maximize the development effect of the station areas, and actively respond to public contest projects and national funding support projects.

City areas such as Chuncheon, Wonju, and Sokcho have relatively favorable development conditions, including resident population, and station area development projects are actively underway.

Park Ki-dong, Director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau of Gangwon Province, said, "Counties located in border areas are relatively neglected in development," and added, "These counties should focus their capabilities on preparing plans to revitalize the areas around stations by utilizing national funding projects that fit the local characteristics and conditions."
