Hope to Be Cherished in My Hometown Jindo

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Park Hong-ryul, mayor of Mokpo City, donated 1 million won of hometown love donation to his hometown, Jindo County.

According to Jindo County on the 2nd, Mayor Park, who is from Gwanmaedo, a representative tourist destination, personally visited the Jindo County Office to deliver the donation, taking the lead in the successful establishment of the hometown love donation system and the spread of donation culture.

Mayor Park Hong-ryul of Mokpo said, “Jindo is the place where I was born and raised, so I made a donation for the development of my hometown,” and added, “I hope my sincerity will contribute to revitalizing the Jindo local economy and improving residents' welfare.”

In response, Kim Hee-soo, governor of Jindo County, said, “We will actively strive to ensure that Mayor Park Hong-ryul’s love for his hometown leads to the enhancement of residents' benefits,” and “We hope for active participation from expatriates nationwide for the construction of a newly changing and developing Jindo County.”

Meanwhile, the hometown love donation system, implemented this year, allows individuals to donate up to 5 million won annually to local governments other than their registered address. The collected donations are used for welfare projects to support vulnerable groups and revitalize local communities.

Donations up to 100,000 won are fully tax-deductible, and for amounts exceeding 100,000 won, a 16.5% tax credit is applied along with gifts worth 30% of the donation amount.

To participate in the donation, one can access the Hometown Love e-um website or visit a nearby NongHyup branch.

Jindo County has selected 24 types of return gifts, including agricultural and marine products such as rice, turmeric, goji berries, seaweed, abalone, and blue crabs, as well as local gift certificates and tourism product vouchers, which are registered in the system and provided to donors.
