[Featured Stock] Oros Technology, 'Semiconductor Special Act' Gains Momentum... Korea's Only Wafer Measurement Technology Highlighted Upward

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Oros Technology is showing strong performance. The company is gaining attention as the likelihood of the Semiconductor Special Act (K-Chips Act) passing in the National Assembly has increased, and Oros Technology is the only domestic company possessing semiconductor wafer measurement technology.

As of 9:09 AM on the 2nd, Oros Technology is trading at 15,360 KRW, up 3.5% from the previous day.

According to reports from the previous day, the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee is expected to submit the Tax Incentive Limitation Act, which expands tax credits for corporate semiconductor facility investments, as part of the Semiconductor Special Act (K-Chips Act) at the plenary session on the 14th.

Earlier, on the 19th of last month, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance submitted the government's draft of the Tax Incentive Limitation Act to the National Assembly. The government proposal includes raising the tax credit rate for investments in national advanced strategic industry facilities such as semiconductor-related facilities from 8% to 15% for large and medium-sized enterprises, and from 16% to 25% for small and medium-sized enterprises. It also includes an additional 10% tax credit for investments exceeding the average annual investment amount over the past three years, applicable only until this year.

President Yoon Seok-yeol issued an unusual message urging the government to provide additional support for the "patchwork K-Chips Act" ahead of the Cabinet meeting in December last year.

Meanwhile, Oros Technology's main business is manufacturing MI equipment for semiconductor wafers. In 2011, it succeeded in domestic production of overlay measurement equipment for the first time in Korea.

Overlay is a technology that measures whether the circuit patterns of the upper and lower layers of a semiconductor wafer are properly aligned. Currently, only three companies worldwide, including Oros Technology, the United States, and the Netherlands, produce overlay equipment, indicating a high entry barrier for this technology.

Recently, Oros Technology has diversified its sales channels by acquiring new customers among other major domestic semiconductor companies and companies in the Greater China region, reducing its previous sales concentration on SK Hynix. In December last year, it also supplied its 100th piece of equipment to a major domestic semiconductor device company.
