Hyundai Children's Book Museum to Host Andersen Award Exhibition

Hyundai Department Store's Hyundai Children's Book Museum is exhibiting works by illustrators who have received the globally prestigious 'Hans Christian Andersen Award.'

Hyundai Department Store announced on the 2nd that the 'Two Times Exhibition,' featuring works by Andersen Award-winning artists, will be held at the Hyundai Children's Book Museum on the 5th floor of the Pangyo branch until April 9.

The Andersen Award is given to authors and illustrators who have made significant and lasting contributions to children's literature and is recognized as the Nobel Prize of children's literature. The author award started in 1956, and the illustrator award began in 1966, both announced biennially.

Distinguished international children's literature judges select the winners by evaluating not only the aesthetic and literary qualities of writing and illustration but also the ability to see things from a child's perspective and to expand children's curiosity and imagination. Notably, the award considers the authors' complete works.

The upcoming Two Times Exhibition will showcase about 70 works by Suzy Lee, the first Korean to win the Andersen Award in the illustrator category, along with approximately 90 works by five other illustrators who were finalists in the same category, including Argentine picture book author Gusti and Canadian picture book author Sydney Smith. Visitors can also enjoy works by French author Marie-Aude Murail, who won the author category, as well as works by five other finalists in the same category. Representative works include Suzy Lee's "Blackbird," Gusti's "Malco, Your Name," and Sydney Smith's "I Talk Like a River."

This exhibition is characterized by its design that expresses the 'author's time' leading up to global recognition through the Andersen Award and the 'child's time' of gradually growing by reading picture books and appreciating the works. Hyundai Department Store explained that the growth processes of the author and child are represented through diagonals and stairs.

The admission fee for the exhibition is 6,000 won, and detailed information about the exhibition can be found on the Hyundai Children's Book Museum website.
