Seoul City and Convenience Stores Expand Installation of Automated External Defibrillators at 175 Locations

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) will be installed in convenience stores operating 24 hours a day, allowing anyone to easily use them in emergencies. The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 2nd that it has signed a business agreement with four convenience store companies (CU, GS, Seven Eleven, Emart24) and will initially install AEDs in 175 convenience stores in February, with plans to gradually expand.


On the same day, Seoul signed a "Business Agreement to Expand AED Installation in Convenience Stores and Promote Rescue and First Aid Training" with the four convenience store companies. Subsequently, rescue and first aid training will be provided to convenience store employees to support practical emergency response.

According to this agreement, both parties will ▲support the expansion of AED installation in convenience stores provide space within convenience stores for AED installation systematically operate training for employees such as AED safety managers and cooperate in the maintenance and management of AEDs.


Seoul plans to quickly install AEDs in 175 convenience stores of the four companies in February. Priority will be given to convenience stores in areas with high user traffic or dense populations, such as near subway stations, large shopping malls, and apartment complexes.


The four convenience store companies will select stores with heavy foot traffic to prepare space for AED installation and support their use. Each convenience store will also designate a "Safety Manager" to ensure employees receive regular training to systematically manage the use and maintenance of the equipment.


Park Yumi, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Citizen Health Bureau, said, "Through this agreement, we will install and expand AEDs in convenience stores and strengthen CPR training to further increase citizens' survival rates in emergency situations."
