Yangcheon, an Education Special Zone, Expands Customized Admission Briefings to 7 Sessions Throughout the Year

Admission briefings expanded from 1 to 7 sessions, providing timely customized admission information by admission period

Improving satisfaction with topic-specific briefings on high school entrance, high school credit system, college admission screening, and self-directed learning

First session: New semester preparation admission briefing for elementary, middle, and high school parents on the 22nd; registration opens at 10 AM on the 6th on a first-come, first-served basis

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Ki-jae) announced that reflecting high educational demand, it will significantly expand topic-specific admission briefings and hold a total of seven 'timely customized admission briefings' throughout the year from February to December for parents and residents interested in learning and admissions in the area.

Last November, the 'Early Preparation College Admission Strategy Briefing' held with a famous admission coordinator attracted great response, with about 380 participants registering within a single day.

Encouraged by such high parental interest, the district plans to increase the number of admission briefings from one to seven this year to provide customized educational information according to admission periods.

First, in February, an admission briefing for parents of elementary, middle, and high school students preparing for the new semester will be held to provide essential admission information during academic transition periods. In May, a special lecture on 'Changing College Admission Policies and Latest Educational Issues' will cover changes related to the 2022 revised curriculum and future admission policies.

In July, an admission strategy briefing for early decision applications for the 2024 academic year will be held for local examinees and parents to establish support strategies for early decision screening.

In September, during the high school application period, a briefing on 'High School Credit System and High School Selection' will share key information on the pros and cons of school selection types and curriculum design plans following the introduction of the high school credit system.

In November, after the 2024 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), a 'Regular Admission Strategy Briefing' will analyze the difficulty of the CSAT and explore major universities' regular admission guidelines to support admission strategies.

In December, during winter vacation, a special lecture on 'Self-Directed Learning Methods for Winter Vacation Preparation' will be held to help students improve academic abilities by age, including study planning and training in metacognition (thinking and judgment skills).

Additionally, in August and December, the existing '1:1 Intensive Counseling for Early and Regular Admission Preparation' will be conducted, inviting current and former career and admission specialist high school teachers for high-quality individual admission counseling.

As the first session of the timely customized admission briefings, the district will hold the 'New Semester Preparation Admission Briefing for Elementary, Middle, and High School Parents' on the 22nd at 3 PM and 7 PM at Haenuri Town Haenuri Hall, targeting 300 students each from elementary/middle and high schools.

At the elementary and middle school briefing, career and admission expert Lim Myung-sun will provide customized information on ▲subject-specific study management methods and ▲preparation methods for different types of high school entrance. For high school students, Lee Young-duk, head of Daesung Academic Development Institute and a top domestic admission expert, will introduce changing college admission prospects and preparation secrets.

Registration opens online on a first-come, first-served basis via the district office website's integrated reservation portal from 10 AM on February 6 until the 21st. Pre-registrants will receive a key materials booklet containing study management methods and admission strategies.

Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "Thanks to the enthusiastic interest and support of parents, we have expanded the admission briefings to seven sessions to provide meaningful admission information at each admission stage," adding, "We will continue to steadfastly promote Yangcheon-type education policies that nurture future talents, befitting the reputation of 'Education Special Zone Yangcheon.'"

Songpa-Type Customized Education Supported with 500 Million Won Investment

Schools can choose from culture and arts, 4th industrial technology, sports, and more

‘After-School Enrichment Class’ pledge of the 8th administration also promoted to solve care issues

Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Kang-seok) will actively support customized education to ensure that various educational needs beyond regular classes are met in public education. The district will invest 500 million won throughout this year.

Mayor Seo Kang-seok explained, "As of the end of last year, Songpa-gu has about 67,000 students, the highest among Seoul's autonomous districts," adding, "Not only is the demand for education high, but the needs are diverse, so we decided to provide 'customized' support necessary in public education."

Notably, local instructors and professional mentors will participate. Seventy-eight professional instructors trained by the district will visit schools as needed to conduct creative experiential activities in humanities, culture and arts, and basic academic skills. Additionally, in cooperation with the Songpa Career and Job Experience Center, various mentors will provide career and admission programs combining theory and experience, such as special lectures and admission briefings.

The ‘After-School Enrichment Class,’ a pledge of the 8th administration, will also be fully implemented. The district will discover unused spaces within schools or local educational spaces to operate after-school classes on weekday afternoons or Saturdays when care gaps occur. Programs with high student demand such as future creative education, arts and physical education, and making and craft experiences will be conducted.

Moreover, schools can autonomously select programs. The district proposes five themes, and schools choose programs according to their needs. These include ▲running enjoyable school life with arts such as dance performances and exhibitions ▲operating Songpa Future Education to experience 4th industrial technologies like AI, drones, and coding ▲supporting various sports clubs such as basketball and volleyball ▲psychological counseling ▲and ecological education support.

All these programs target local elementary, middle, and high schools. Applications will be accepted in February, and programs will start in March when the semester begins.

Additionally, youth-led events such as the ‘Songpa Youth Film Festival’ and the youth challenge project ‘Anything’ will continue. The film festival will invite creative films from youths aged 13 to 18 nationwide and is scheduled for October this year. ‘Anything’ will support diversification of middle and high school clubs.

Mayor Seo Kang-seok of Songpa-gu said, "Along with customized education support needed in schools, we will also provide efficient education expense support and native English instructor support to create 'Songpa, a city of educational advancement' where all residents have equal educational opportunities."

Geumcheon-gu Produces Voice Webtoon ‘It’s Okay, Geumcheon!’ to Prevent School Violence

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced that the Geumcheon-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center has produced a voice webtoon titled ‘It’s Okay, Geumcheon!’ to prevent school violence.

The voice webtoon ‘It’s Okay, Geumcheon!’ adapts cyberbullying counseling cases to help youths appropriately respond to cyberbullying that may be occurring around them.

The story follows the protagonist ‘Geumcheon-i,’ who suffers from cyberbullying and meets a counselor at the Geumcheon-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center, recovering from emotional wounds and growing into a defender who prevents violence.

This webtoon is based on a webtoon created together by out-of-school youths in Geumcheon-gu and center staff. It is especially meaningful as not only professional voice actors but also out-of-school youths participate in the narration.

‘It’s Okay, Geumcheon!’ can be viewed on the Geumcheon-gu Youth Counseling Welfare Center website’s document library or on their YouTube channel.

Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, expressed hope that the voice webtoon ‘It’s Okay, Geumcheon!’ will be actively used in local activities to prevent and eradicate cyberbullying.
