This is part of the Korean War Medal of Honor Recovery Project, which awards medals to veterans who were recognized for their merits during the Korean War but did not receive the actual medals and certificates due to the urgent war situation.
On this day, Mayor Oh Seung-rok, along with Colonel Shin Ki-jin, Head of the Army Headquarters Investigation Team, Lieutenant Colonels Choi Jong-gil and Kim Young-beom, Ko Young-seok, Chairman of the Nowon District Chapter of the Medal of Honor Recipients Association, Song Jin-ho, Chairman of the Nowon District Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, and Lee Young-hwa, the younger sibling of the late Lee Byung-hwan, a recipient of the Hwarang Medal of Honor, attended a meeting and then held the medal awarding ceremony.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I am glad and honored to be able to deliver the medals, albeit belatedly,” and added, “Nowon District will take the lead in creating a social atmosphere that does not forget and respects the contributions of those who dedicated themselves to the country.”

The Medal of Honor awarded to a Korean War veteran was delivered to the bereaved family after 73 years.
Guro District (Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced that it has presented the Musunghwarang Medal of Honor to the family of the late Corporal Choi Seong-yong, a Korean War veteran.
Corporal Choi Seong-yong enlisted in 1949 and served in the 6th Division during the Korean War. Although the award of the medal was decided on December 30, 1950, in recognition of his merits, he was discharged in 1958 without receiving the actual medal and certificate due to the urgent battlefield situation.
On January 30, Mayor Moon Heon-il delivered the medal on behalf of the late Corporal Choi Hyuk-su, son of Corporal Choi Seong-yong.
On the same day, Mayor Moon held a meeting with Colonel Shin Ki-jin, head of the Korean War Medal of Honor Recovery Investigation Team, and promised support for the team’s inquiry activities.
From January 30 to February 3, the district designated a week as a focused inquiry support period and established a cooperative system with the Army Headquarters Korean War Medal of Honor Recovery Investigation Team to search for local heroes within the district.
The district actively promotes the ‘Finding Our Local Heroes Campaign’ to residents and public officials, and during this period, assigns dedicated public officials to support the investigation team. These officials will accompany the team on-site when necessary and provide administrative data to assist their inquiry activities.

The Ministry of National Defense is promoting the ‘Finding Our Local Heroes Campaign’ nationwide in cooperation with local governments, and through the Korean War Medal of Honor Recovery Project, Guro District has delivered medals to 10 veterans over the past three years.
Dongdaemun District Holds Folk Game Events from the 1st to the 4th in Celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum, Organized by Village Event Promotion Committees in Each Neighborhood

Dongdaemun District (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is hosting folk game events with residents in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum.
The Jeongwol Daeboreum folk game events, held in each neighborhood, opened on the 1st in Hoegi-dong and continue until the 4th, the day before Jeongwol Daeboreum. Each neighborhood’s Village Event Promotion Committee organizes one to six events per day.
This folk game event features familiar traditional games such as Yutnori, Tuho, and Jegichagi, conducted in formats like individual competitions and contests between professional groups to allow many residents to enjoy together.
Festive performances by pungmul bands and other lively acts will enhance the festival atmosphere, along with side events such as writing family mottos, traditional food contests, and tastings.
Additionally, the district conducted thorough safety inspections before the events to prevent accidents. Safety checks were performed on folk game-related facilities, electricity, and gas, and key entrances and stages were carefully examined to prepare for crowded situations.
Visiting the Jeongwol Daeboreum folk game event site in Hoegi-dong, Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, “I am pleased that an opportunity has been created to experience the fading seasonal customs on Jeongwol Daeboreum,” and added, “I hope this will be a warm Jeongwol Daeboreum where neighbors enjoy traditional games together, share stories, and harmonize. We will do our best to ensure safe event operations.”
