Changwon Mayor Hong Nampyo: "Strengthening Disaster Response to Build a Safe City Changwon"

Interview with Heads of Agencies on Disaster Management Evaluation Hosted by Ministry of the Interior and Safety

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, stated on the 1st during the ‘Disaster Management Evaluation Agency Head Interview’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, “We will strengthen disaster response and create a safe city, Changwon.”


This evaluation is conducted according to the ‘Disaster and Safety Management Basic Act’ and targets 338 disaster management responsible agencies nationwide. An evaluation team composed of external experts reviews the previous year’s performance step-by-step, comprehensively assessing a total of 36 indicators across 6 areas including individual, department, network, and agency capabilities, and then selects outstanding agencies.

The main interview topics include ▲special vision and promotion plans for disaster safety management ▲policies to overcome risk factors ▲plans for personnel, organizational strengthening, and incentives to enhance the capabilities of disaster safety departments ▲appropriateness of budgets in the disaster safety field ▲support promotion plans for education, publicity, and events ▲and a total of 9 special policies for disaster safety management in Changwon City.


Mayor Hong said, “To create a safe Changwon City, we are focusing on establishing a disaster and safety management system and prioritizing the protection of citizens’ lives and property from various disasters in our administration,” adding, “We will do our best to establish a proactive preparedness posture to strengthen disaster management capabilities and build a rapid response system.”
