EPA Drag Coefficient 0.22... 'Digital Side Mirror'
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Hyundai Motor Company Ioniq 6 base model 2-wheel long-range version has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a maximum single-charge driving range of 581 km. The combined energy efficiency recorded was 140 MPGe. MPGe indicates the distance in miles that an electric vehicle can travel on the equivalent cost of one gallon of gasoline.
This is among the highest levels for electric vehicles sold in the United States. It ranks highest among the top 10 vehicles based on energy efficiency standards released by the U.S. government-operated energy-saving site Fueleconomy.gov.
The Ioniq 6 has achieved the lowest drag coefficient of 0.21 among all Hyundai models to date. The EPA-certified drag coefficient for this model is 0.22. This difference is attributed to the presence or absence of digital side mirrors. The EPA-certified model is equipped with conventional side mirrors.
A Hyundai Motor Company official stated, “We are very pleased that the Ioniq 6 has achieved top-level energy efficiency in the U.S. market,” adding, “Efficient energy consumption is an important purchasing criterion for consumers of electric vehicles, so we expect this to have a positive impact on sales.”
