"Next Year's General Election Does Not Require a Presidential Candidate-Type Leader"
"Ahn Cheol-soo Is a Presidential Candidate-Type Leader"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Yoon Sang-hyun, a ruling party candidate for party leadership, criticized fellow candidate Kim Ki-hyun for recently facing backlash after taking photos with singer Nam Jin and volleyball player Kim Yeon-koung, saying, "Reckless promotion damages the party's dignity." Regarding Ahn Cheol-soo, who is grouped under the "Capital Region Alliance," Yoon said, "He is a presidential candidate-type leader," adding, "What we need in next year's general election is not a presidential candidate-type leader."
On the 1st, on MBC's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus,' Yoon said, "I called Mr. Nam Jin, and he asked, 'What is your name?' He said he didn't even know the name," referring to the incident.
Yoon relayed that Mr. Nam complained, "I met (Kim Ki-hyun) for only two minutes, and the bouquet wasn't even prepared by me; someone just brought it. They just took a photo carelessly and left. How can such a thing happen?" He added, "I will tell Kim to formally apologize when they meet."
He criticized, "I know many notable figures in Korea. But someone who took a photo with our Mr. Nam Jin, whom they have never met, and posted on Facebook that they support him?how can such a person lead the general election campaign?"
Although Kim is known as the candidate with Yoon's support (Yoonshim), Yoon himself also claims to be pro-Yoon. When asked about the difference between Kim and himself, he said, "Kim is a pro-Yoon candidate, and I am a true Yoon candidate," adding, "Honestly, isn't Kim completely marketing?"
He directly criticized Kim, saying, "Exploiting Yoon's support, Yoon marketing?this ultimately does not help the president. I never say things like 'I met the president' or 'This is the president's will.'"
Yoon is known to be grouped with Ahn Cheol-soo, who is also competing for party leadership, under the "Capital Region Alliance." However, he drew a line, saying it is just a group that agrees on the "Capital Region representation theory," not an alliance. He said, "In short, it is a political motive and a cooperative competitive relationship," adding, "The media coined it as a counter-concept to the Kim-Jang alliance (Kim Ki-hyun-Jang Je-won alliance)."
He continued, "The difference between Ahn and me is that Ahn is, in short, a presidential candidate," adding, "For next year's general election, what is needed is a practical-type leader to ensure victory and the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, not a presidential candidate-type leader."
