Economic Chief "Discussion on Expanding Support for Basic Livelihood Security Recipients and Lower-Income Groups"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 31st, the Presidential Office announced regarding additional heating cost support, "The relevant ministries will discuss and announce soon the expansion of support targets to include basic livelihood security recipients who are not eligible for energy vouchers and the near-poverty class."
Choi Sang-mok, Chief Secretary for Economic Affairs, said at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon, "We plan to provide the most substantial support possible to the low-income class."
President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed at the senior secretaries' meeting the previous day, "Actively consider measures to reduce the heating cost burden for the middle class and low-income people."
Regarding this, Chief Secretary Choi explained, "Priority is to provide direct support to the low-income class first, and the relevant ministries are currently discussing and reviewing this."
He added, "President Yoon's intention is to comprehensively review various ways to reduce the public's heating cost burden, and among them, the most urgent is ultimately the low-income class. There have been criticisms that support for the low-income class has not been substantial enough, and discussions are ongoing on this matter."
