[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] A warrant for arrest has been requested for a cargo truck driver on charges of habitual drunk driving.
Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 31st that they have applied for a pre-arrest warrant for A (40) on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act.
The police explained that this decision was made considering the risk of reoffending and the seriousness of the case.
The schedule for the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant substantive examination) is undecided.
A is accused of driving under the influence around 3:30 a.m. on October 29 last year in the downtown area of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.
He was caught in a police drunk driving crackdown, and his blood alcohol concentration was 0.0160%, which corresponds to license cancellation.
He is also suspected of drunk driving two more times during the criminal procedure process.
In the additional drunk driving detections, blood alcohol concentration levels corresponding to license cancellation and license suspension were measured, respectively.
A reportedly pleaded, "My son is about to join the military, so please delay the timing of the arrest investigation a little."
A has a history of multiple punishments for similar offenses in the past.
He was arrested in October 2020 and released in December the following year, but after reacquiring his canceled driver's license, he again committed habitual drunk driving.
