Daejeon City to Distribute 300 Hydrogen Cars with '32.5 Million KRW Support per Vehicle'

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City will distribute 300 hydrogen vehicles this year. The subsidy per hydrogen vehicle has been set at 32.5 million KRW.

The city announced on the 31st that it will promote the ‘2023 Hydrogen Electric Vehicle (hereafter hydrogen vehicle) Distribution Project’ with these details.

The distribution volume includes 270 units for the general public and 30 units prioritized for vulnerable groups and families with multiple children. Applications for subsidies are available to citizens or corporations aged 18 or older residing in Daejeon continuously for 30 days prior to the application date. However, subsidies can only be received for one vehicle per applicant (including corporations).

The city has improved the previous support method, which excluded those who received hydrogen vehicle subsidies from eligibility if they scrapped their vehicle. Starting this year, if a hydrogen vehicle is scrapped due to unavoidable reasons such as traffic accidents or natural disasters, applicants can receive the subsidy again.

Additionally, with the establishment of the Panam hydrogen charging station, priority eligibility has been added for residents of Panam 1-dong, and the distribution of priority quotas has been adjusted to ensure that those scrapping old diesel vehicles are not disadvantaged.

From this year, even if the vehicle owner scraps or deregisters the vehicle during the mandatory operation period and moves outside of Daejeon, they will not be required to return the city subsidy.

To receive the subsidy, applicants must sign a purchase contract at any Hyundai Motor sales branch, the manufacturer and seller of hydrogen vehicles, and then submit the subsidy application documents.

The city will select subsidy recipients in order of the purchase contract date and proceed with the project by paying the subsidy in bulk to the seller.

For more detailed information regarding hydrogen vehicle subsidy support, please refer to the announcement posted on the city’s website and the Zero Emission Vehicle Subsidy Support System.

Meanwhile, the city currently operates hydrogen charging stations at eight locations including Hakha-dong, Daeseong-dong, Sangseo-dong, Shindae-dong, Jaun-dong, Gap-dong, Samjeong-dong, and Gudo-dong.

This year, one hydrogen charging station will be newly established each in Guam-dong and Geumgo-dong, and facility expansion is planned at the existing Hakha charging station.

The total number of hydrogen vehicles distributed in Daejeon up to last year is 1,161 units.
