[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Eui-gyeom, the spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea who was reported to the presidential office over allegations against Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, raised concerns, saying, "Many allegations related to Mrs. Kim have been raised so far, but the presidential office has not said anything."
On the 31st, Kim said on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' "In the case of Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, during government questioning and parliamentary standing committee sessions, he said, 'This case has been under investigation for a long time, and it has been investigated fairly and thoroughly, so a conclusion will be reached soon, regarding Mrs. Kim Keon-hee.' This was in July last year," he said.
He added, "But what about now? She has not even been summoned once. If she is not involved, it should be dismissed without charges, but it hasn't been dismissed either," and said, "Prosecutors who investigated the allegations related to Mrs. Kim have continuously presented in court very indirect and metaphorical circumstantial evidence suggesting the possibility of her involvement."
Regarding the necessity of a special prosecutor for Deutsche Motors, he said, "It should be done regardless of the first trial," and added, "Since Mrs. Kim has not yet been indicted in the trial, a special prosecutor should investigate her connection." He continued, "On the 10th of next month, the verdict for nine people including Chairman Kwon Oh-soo will be announced, so it is necessary to thoroughly investigate the suspicions involving Mrs. Kim along with Deutsche Motors through a special prosecutor thereafter."
Regarding the presidential office's accusation against him, he said, "I commented that 'there is suspicion of involvement in stock manipulation,' and the presidential office says that I made a definitive accusation that Mrs. Kim was involved in stock manipulation," but he rebutted, "This is not something I made up; judges and prosecutors directly mentioned this issue during the trial process." He clarified that his comment was based on statements made by prosecutors during the trial, not a definitive accusation.
