Presidential Office on 'KCC Inspection' Report: "Neglecting Misconduct Is Dereliction of Duty"

The Legal Basis for KCC Inspection Is "Not Special Enough to Require Legal Explanation"

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] On the 30th, the Presidential Office stated regarding media reports that "the Office of the Secretary for Public Service Discipline has begun an audit of the Korea Communications Commission," saying, "If issues such as public officials' negligence or misconduct that require maintaining public service discipline are being neglected, that itself is negligence."

A senior official from the Presidential Office responded to reporters' questions about the facts of the report at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the same day, saying, "There is nothing specific to confirm."

Regarding a question about the legal basis for the audit of the Korea Communications Commission, the official said, "The Office of the Secretary for Public Service Discipline can oversee all matters related to the work attitude of various public officials and appropriate conduct as public officials," adding, "There is nothing particularly special that requires a legal explanation."

Earlier, a media outlet reported that the Office of the Secretary for Public Service Discipline at the Presidential Office plans to summon officials from the Korea Communications Commission this week to investigate the appointment process of directors to the boards of public broadcasters such as EBS during the Moon Jae-in administration. It was also reported that the Office of Public Service Management under the Office for Government Policy Coordination began an audit targeting the Korea Communications Commission earlier this month to investigate the matter, and that the audit is still ongoing.
