"Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight" has rewritten the box office record for Japanese live-action films after 21 years.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, the film "Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight" (director Takahiro Miki), released on November 30, reached a cumulative audience of 1,005,549 on the 29th, 61 days after its release. It is the first Japanese live-action film to surpass 1 million viewers since "Ju-on" (2002), 21 years ago.
"Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight" is a film depicting the fresh and poignant love story between Maori, a high school girl suffering from anterograde amnesia who resets her memory every morning, and Toru, an ordinary high school boy living a dull daily life. It is based on the novel of the same name by Misaki Ichijo, published in 2021.
It stars Shunsuke Michieda, a member of the Japanese Johnny's 7-member boy group Naniwa Danshi and an active actor, along with Riko Fukumoto. The film, with its delicate cinematography and heartfelt youth love story, has gained overwhelming support from the 10-20 age group, drawing attention to whether it will surpass the 1.15 million viewers record of "Love Letter" (1999), the top-grossing Japanese live-action film.
