[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The AI Grand ICT Research Center at Dong-Eui University held an international metaverse museum online symposium in collaboration with the National Maritime Museum and Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK.
The symposium, themed "Establishing Maritime Museums in the Metaverse," was held online for about three hours starting at 6 p.m. on the 19th.
The event was attended online by Jeong Seok-chan, head of the AI Grand ICT Research Center; Kim Tae-man, director of the National Maritime Museum; Baek Seung-ju, researcher; Jeong Hyeong-su, professor at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK; Pierangelo Campodonico, director of the Maritime Museum of Genoa, Italy; a professor from the University of Cambridge, UK; and representatives from companies in the UK, Egypt, and Italy specializing in augmented reality implementation.
Session 1 shared information on metaverse museums in Korea, Session 2 covered cases of metaverse museums, and Session 3 discussed metaverse museum solutions.
The participating companies introduced metaverse museum platforms using 'Zepeto,' demonstrating the necessary technologies and currently applied metaverse technologies, and discussed metaverse museums without spatial and temporal constraints.

Professor Jeong Hyeong-su of Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK said, "The establishment of museums using the metaverse is delayed due to expensive platform development costs and content production costs," adding, "Most museums are national assets, so support is limited within restricted resources, but building a mega platform that can be jointly used by countries worldwide seems to be one solution."
Jeong Seok-chan, head of the AI Grand ICT Research Center, said, "If seminars are held globally together with countries like the US and Japan, where related research is actively conducted, it will create better synergy through sharing various cases and technologies."
