Suncheon City Shares Current Administrative Issues with National Assembly Member Jo Su-jin

On-site Visit for Budget Inclusion to Ensure Successful Garden Expo Hosting

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Heo Seonsik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that the visit of Jo Su-jin, a member of the People Power Party, is expected to give momentum to the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo and the promotion of key pending projects.

The city stated that Jo Su-jin (proportional representative) of the People Power Party visited Suncheon on the 30th and had a time to share the city's pending projects.

As her first schedule upon arriving in Suncheon, Representative Jo met with Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon for a meeting and listened to proposals regarding Suncheon’s pending projects and special grant projects.

The city proposed two pending projects: the creation of the Yeoja Bay Mudflat Wetland Garden and an urban gardening project to respond to climate change and achieve carbon neutrality. Along with this, the city requested special grants totaling 3.7 billion KRW for three projects, including the reconstruction of Sinjeon Bridge and two other projects, and also requested President Yoon Seok-yeol’s attendance at the opening ceremony of the Garden Expo.

One of the post-expo utilization projects, the urban gardening project, aims to create a massive garden axis connecting Suncheon Bay, the National Garden, and the downtown area, presenting an expanded standard model for garden cities in Korea. This large-scale project involves a total investment of 130.8 billion KRW.

The Yeoja Bay Mudflat Wetland Garden project is a core project for the sustainable development of the globally valuable Suncheon ecosystem. It involves creating a mudflat wetland garden around Yeoja Bay with 200 billion KRW of national funds to preserve the ecological, cultural, and economic values of the marine assets of Suncheon and Boseong.

During the site visit, they toured project sites such as the planned animation cluster centered on the webtoon center, which Representative Jo supported last year, and Green Island along Riverside Road, which received 1.9 billion KRW in special grants.

Especially at the Garden Expo sites including Green Island, Ocheon Green Plaza, Kids Garden, and Sunset Garden, Representative Jo expressed surprise and anticipation, noting significant changes since her visit in July last year, and pledged to actively support the successful hosting of the Garden Expo.

Representative Jo Su-jin stated, “I will do my best to ensure that Suncheon’s key projects are actively reflected in the government budget by continuously proposing their inclusion in the national mid-term project plan to relevant central ministries such as the Korea Forest Service and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as well as the Ministry of Economy and Finance.”
