[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is undergoing a regular institutional operation audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection.
On the 30th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the Board of Audit and Inspection deployed 13 auditors to conduct a preliminary investigation (preliminary survey) on the main office, affiliated organizations, business offices, and subordinate public institutions.
The preliminary investigation will last about 20 days. The Board of Audit and Inspection will then proceed with the main audit at the end of next month or early March. The main audit is expected to take 2 to 3 months.
The audit scope covers from January 2018 to the present. Major projects promoted during the tenure of former Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung (July 2018 to October 2021) are expected to be the main targets.
The Board of Audit and Inspection is known to have requested materials related to the province’s business promotion expenses, the status of inter-Korean cooperation projects, and the selection of regional currency operators.
In particular, among the 13 audit personnel, 8 were sent to the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Office to focus the audit on projects under the Northern Office’s jurisdiction, such as inter-Korean cooperation and regional currency.
A provincial official stated, "Since Governor Kim Dong-yeon took office in July last year, projects from the 7th local government term under former Governor Lee Jae-myung are expected to be the main audit targets. We understand that materials have been requested regarding projects mentioned in media reports and last year’s national audit."
