According to Mokpo Coast Guard Station (Chief Kim Hae-cheol) on the 30th, at 11:59 p.m. on the 27th, a report was received that resident A (female, in her 70s) on Heuksando, Sinan-gun, was showing severe vomiting symptoms and was semi-conscious. A patrol ship conducting security duties nearby was dispatched immediately.

Despite heavy snowfall at sea, strong winds of 16 to 18 m/s, and high waves of 3 meters, the ship moved to the scene, took A and her guardian on board, and quickly transported them to Seomang Port in Jindo-gun, handing them over to the 119 ambulance at 6:43 a.m. the next day, the 28th.

Subsequently, on the 28th, the Coast Guard transported resident B (female, in her 80s) from Gwanmaedo in Jindo-gun, who was complaining of severe headaches, and resident C (in her 70s) from Jodo, who showed high fever symptoms. Following that, resident D (in his 60s) from Haewido in Sinan-gun, who complained of chest pain, and resident E (female, in her 80s) from Sinui-do, who had breathing difficulties, were urgently transported to the mainland one after another.

The five emergency patients transported by the Coast Guard were reportedly moved to large hospitals located in Mokpo and Jindo for treatment.

A Mokpo Coast Guard official said, “The sea weather was very bad, making it difficult to transport patients to the mainland,” adding, “When maritime weather warnings are issued, we will do our best to ensure safety management and respond quickly to emergencies.”
