Yanolja and Interpark Analyze Leisure Data
Overseas Travel Packages and Air Tickets Recover to Pre-COVID-19 Levels
Global leisure platform Yanolja announced on the 30th that, based on an analysis of domestic and international leisure data during the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday in collaboration with Interpark, the usage rate of overseas accommodations increased by 4057% compared to the previous year.
The number of users for Interpark's main categories, overseas travel packages and international flights, surged by 3187% and 3135% respectively, driven by the increase in overseas travel. Compared to the 2020 Lunar New Year holiday, which was right after the COVID-19 outbreak, the number of overseas package and international flight users increased by 13% and 34% respectively, indicating a recovery to pre-COVID-19 levels, Yanolja reported.
The number of domestic accommodation bookings decreased by 29% compared to the previous year's Lunar New Year holiday. The booking rate by date was highest on the day after Lunar New Year, the 23rd (33%). Unlike last year, when bookings were concentrated in the early part of the holiday, this year showed a relatively even distribution due to the shorter holiday period.
By domestic region, accommodation booking rates were highest in Gyeonggi-do (23%), Seoul (19%), Busan (9%), Incheon (7%), and Gangwon-do (6%), with the metropolitan area ranking at the top. Overseas, Japan showed strong performance. Overseas accommodations were booked most in Osaka (25%), Tokyo (16%), and Fukuoka (12%), and international flights also recorded a majority share in major Japanese cities such as Osaka (32%), Fukuoka (24%), and Narita (21%).
By leisure type, extreme sports (45%) took first place, boosted by the popularity of winter representative activities such as skiing and snowboarding. Theme parks (29%) and spas/water parks (12%) followed, and with the recent rapid revitalization of the performance industry, the performance and exhibition category (10%) newly entered the rankings.
