[Asia Economy Reporter Myung-Hwan Lee] The Korean Medical Association and Buchaepyo Gasong Foundation announced on the 30th that the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases has been selected as the recipient of the 13th Yoon Kwang-Yeol Medical Award.
The Korean Society of Infectious Diseases received the honor as the corresponding author of the COVID-19 related paper titled "Report on the Epidemiological Features of Coronavirus Disease." The society was chosen for the award for publishing an excellent paper that contributed to raising awareness of the high level of medical research in Korea.
The award ceremony was held on the 26th at the Korean Medical Association's 2023 Annual General Meeting.
The Yoon Kwang-Yeol Medical Award was jointly established in 2009 by the Korean Medical Association and Buchaepyo Gasong Foundation to encourage domestic scholars to submit their world-class research achievements to Korean academic journals and thereby promote the internationalization of Korean medical journals.
The Buchaepyo Gasong Foundation was established in April 2008 through personal donations from Yoon Kwang-Yeol, chairman of Dongwha Pharmaceutical, and his wife Kim Soon-Nyeo, based on the philosophy that "corporate profits should be returned to society." The foundation has been supporting academic research projects and awarding scholarships to selected university students.
