Jin Jeong-seok "Rep. Kim, Spokesperson of the Main Opposition Party, a Mystery in Korean Politics"
[Asia Economy Reporters Hyunju Lee and Youngwon Kim] On the 30th, the People Power Party unleashed sharp criticism toward Kim Eui-gyeom, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who raised additional stock manipulation allegations against First Lady Kim Geon-hee. Kim, serving as the Democratic Party spokesperson, recently raised further stock manipulation suspicions related to First Lady Kim Geon-hee. When the Presidential Office filed a complaint with the prosecution for spreading false information, Kim stated, "We welcome it with open arms."
At the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Jeong Jin-seok, the People Power Party's emergency committee chairman, said, "Kim Eui-gyeom, full of flaws both as a public figure and a private individual, continuing to speak as the spokesperson of the main opposition party is a mystery in Korean politics." He raised his voice, saying, "When the Presidential Office said it would file a complaint, he retorted that if he felt wronged, he should accept a special prosecutor investigation to clear his name. Where on earth did he learn such misconduct?"
Earlier, spokesperson Kim claimed in a written briefing, "In the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation trial, First Lady Kim's name was mentioned at least 300 times, and President Yoon's mother-in-law, Choi Eun-soon, was mentioned over 100 times. Additionally, it was revealed through the prosecutor in charge that accounts of First Lady Kim and Choi were also used in another manipulated stock, 'Woori Technology.'"
Chairman Jeong pointed out, "Spokesperson Kim, a former journalist, spread false news without fact-checking that the President and the Minister of Justice held an all-night drinking party at a bar in Cheongdam-dong with 30 lawyers from Kim & Chang," and added, "He distorted the remarks of the European Union Ambassador to South Korea and eventually issued an official apology."
Jeong Jeom-sik, the ruling party's floor leader on the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, also said at the meeting, "As you know, the facts revealed during the Deutsche Motors trial were already a dull case that Lee Jeong-soo, then chief prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office and a high school junior of Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice under the Moon Jae-in administration in 2021, could not even summon First Lady Kim for questioning." He criticized, "Despite what was already revealed during the prosecution investigation at that time, spokesperson Kim is spouting sophistry."
Jeong also warned, "His behavior of blindly inciting without verifying facts and carelessly uttering anything without considering the impact of his words is astonishing. Instead of self-reflection, he is rallying his supporters and glorifying himself as a hero. Stop trying to deceive the public with baseless provocations that will not work."
