[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Gigalane is gaining strength. It is interpreted that Gigalane, a 5G equipment supplier, is attracting attention following the news that Samsung Electronics has established a new business strategy task force (TF) under its Network Business Division.
As of 9:25 AM on the 30th, Gigalane is trading at 2,085 KRW, up 3.73% from the previous day.
According to industry sources the day before, Samsung Electronics established a new business strategy task force (TF) under the Network Business Division and appointed Henrik Jangson, a director recruited from Ericsson, as the head of the TF. Additionally, Mi-sun Cho, an executive also recruited from Ericsson, was assigned to handle European sales and discover new business opportunities.
The new business TF is expected to actively target the European market, which is increasing its 5G mobile communication infrastructure, and to explore new business ideas using next-generation communication technologies such as 6G and Open RAN.
Since last year, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has been actively working to grow the network business into a core business of Samsung Electronics.
Meanwhile, Gigalane has been supplying 5G base station antennas and filter modules to Samsung Electronics' Network Business Division since the end of 2020 and was selected as Samsung Electronics' sole supplier of 5G equipment in North America in 2021.
