[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-gwon) announced that the science-specialized library ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ will open on January 31.

The ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ was established last December within the Yeongdeungpo-gu Eoullim Center located in Dangsan-dong, with a total floor area of 817㎡ and three stories above ground.

The first floor of the ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ operates as a book curation space that selects various books according to specific themes and proposes them to readers (photo). The second floor houses general and science book collections, while the third floor contains collections of books for infants and children as well as English originals.

The ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ has been in pilot operation since January 16, during which only book reading is allowed. From the opening day on January 31, not only will visitors be able to read the collection materials, but also borrow and return books.

The library operates from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. It is closed on Mondays and public holidays. An interlibrary loan service, allowing convenient borrowing of books held by other libraries, is scheduled to be provided starting in April.

Additionally, from April, the ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ will run various programs themed around science, including lectures, experiences, and exhibitions. Through this, the library aims to provide interesting scientific information to visitors and contribute to nurturing creative future talents.

District Mayor Choi Ho-gwon stated, “I hope the ‘Yeongdeungpo Thinking Factory Library’ will establish itself as a place of learning where young science enthusiasts can develop their potential beyond the basic functions of a library,” and added, “Furthermore, we will strive in many ways to transform it into a space for communication and culture among residents.”

Yongsan-gu Recruiting Regular Participants for Eungbong Infant Forest Experience

Applications Accepted Until 6 p.m. on February 3... Public Drawing on the 7th

Forest Experience Operates from March to December... 50 Classes from Kindergartens and Daycare Centers in the District (Each Class 25 Children)

Yongsan-gu (Acting District Mayor Kim Seon-su) is accepting applications for regular participation in the Eungbong Infant Forest Experience until February 3.

This is to provide opportunities for infants growing up in the city to interact with nature.

The Eungbong Infant Forest Experience program will operate from March 20 in the area of San 8-1, Hannam-dong. Forest guides and hiking trail guides will be assigned to each class to ensure even children without prior forest experience can enjoy the activities.

Operating hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (morning session) and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (afternoon session). The same children will participate in forest experience activities once a week (or every other week) for at least three hours per session.

The recruitment scale is 50 classes with a maximum of 25 children per class. Kindergartens and daycare centers licensed within the district can apply for regular participation. Applications can be submitted in person or by mail to the Parks and Greenery Division office (7th floor) of the district office by 6 p.m. on February 3.

The district prioritizes new participating institutions to expand opportunities for infants to experience the forest and tries to accommodate preferred days and times as much as possible. If applications exceed capacity, classes will be assigned through a public drawing.

The public drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on February 7 in the meeting room on the 7th floor of the district office, and the results will be individually notified to applicants the following day.

The program is free of charge. Participating institutions must enroll in accident insurance before participation. If an institution is absent more than three times, selection will be canceled. Further details can be found in the notices section on the district website.

Acting District Mayor Kim Seon-su said, “We hope many show interest in the forest experience where infants can grow up healthy in nature,” and added, “Considering the high participation rate of daycare centers and kindergartens in the morning, we will carefully ensure that as many institutions as possible can participate.”

Individuals and groups wishing to participate in the Eungbong Infant Forest Experience can do so on weekends or public holidays. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis around the 20th of each month through the Seoul Public Service Reservation System.
