Iran, 5.9 Earthquake... "Over 800 Injured"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] A magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred in the northwestern region of Iran.


According to the Iran Earthquake Center affiliated with Tehran University, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck near the city of Khoy in West Azerbaijan at around 9:44 PM the previous day (local time).


The epicenter was located at 38.59 degrees north latitude and 44.89 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 7 km.


Mohammad Motamedian, governor of West Azerbaijan Province, explained, "The earthquake caused damage to 70 villages, with 3 people dead and 816 injured."


Local media reported that gas supply disruptions occurred in the earthquake-affected area, causing residents to suffer from the cold.
