Lee Won-jae, 1st Vice Minister, Leads Order Support
Four-Day Visit to Peru and Panama Starting the 30th
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Wanyong] The government's efforts to expand overseas construction project orders continue relentlessly. Following the dispatch of the 'One Team Korea' infrastructure cooperation delegation to three Middle Eastern countries from the 24th to the 26th, a public-private joint order support team is now set to operate in Latin America.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 29th, a public-private joint order support team led by Lee Won-jae, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry, will depart on a business trip to two Latin American countries, Peru and Panama, from the 30th to the 2nd of next month.

This order support team plans to carry out support activities for infrastructure orders in the road and railway sectors in the Amazon region of Peru, where Team Korea (a Korean consortium) is scheduled to participate in bidding, and to explore ways to strengthen practical cooperation in the transportation infrastructure sector.
First, for three days starting on the 30th, the team will visit Peru to meet with key high-ranking government officials such as Paola Lazarte, Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru, and Alexei Oblitas, Director of the National Highway Authority, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the infrastructure sector.
In particular, through these meetings, Vice Minister Lee plans to actively support the participation of Korean companies in the overall management project of the approximately $300 million (370 billion KRW) Amazon region road maintenance project commissioned by the Peruvian government.
To secure this project order, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport formed Team Korea last October, consisting of Korea Expressway Corporation, representing the road sector, and engineering specialist company Dohwa Engineering.
Additionally, the team will meet with Maria Jara Lima, Director of the Kayao Urban Transport Authority, to discuss specific project implementation plans, including the participation of Korean companies such as the National Railroad Corporation in the construction of Lima Metro Line 3 and financing methods.
Furthermore, they plan to meet with Wernel Salcedo, Governor of Cusco Province, to request provincial-level attention and cooperation to ensure the safety of Korean personnel amid the recent spread of protests in southern Peru.
On the last day of the trip, the 2nd of next month, they will meet Rafael Sabonge, Minister of Public Works of Panama, to discuss cooperation measures between the two countries in the infrastructure sector.
Currently, infrastructure cooperation between the two countries is active as a Korean company consortium participates in Panama's largest infrastructure project, the construction of Metro Line 3, and they plan to seek follow-up cooperative projects to continue this momentum.
Lee Won-jae, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “The dispatch of this Latin America order support team is part of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's efforts to achieve the $50 billion overseas construction order goal and an opportunity to discover new markets for overseas construction.” He added, “While deepening cooperation with Peru and Panama in the infrastructure sector, it will be an opportunity to enter the high value-added PMO market and discover new cooperation models such as public-private partnership projects.”
