Parents Following Students on Jeju Math Trip... Teachers Say "I'm Going Crazy"

3 Days and 2 Nights with 6 Parents Accompanying... Constant Interference
Elementary School Teacher Complains About Related Issues Online

A teacher's post about parents following their children on a 3-day, 2-night elementary school field trip to Jeju Island, causing difficulties, has become a hot topic online.

The author, Mr. A, posted an article titled "The Atmosphere of 3-Day, 2-Night Field Trips These Days" on an online community on the 26th. In the post, Mr. A expressed his frustration, saying, "I'm really going crazy. We came on a 3-day, 2-night field trip to Jeju Island, and there are as many as six parents who followed us here."

According to the author, parents followed the bus carrying the students in their own cars and appeared at restaurants and accommodations, interfering in every detail. Mr. A said, "Our class is the last to depart, so when you look behind the bus, you can clearly see the parents' cars following us."

He added, "At the restaurant, some parents gave their children lunch boxes with beef instead of black pork because their kids couldn't eat things like black pork," and "In the evening, some parents booked different rooms in the same accommodation and pretended to be travelers, wandering around at night or even sleeping in the parking lot just in case something happened."

Going even further, some parents reportedly asked to have their children sent to their own rooms, claiming their kids couldn't change clothes in crowded places.

Photos posted by Mr. A show that he received multiple calls and texts from presumed parents between 7 and 8 p.m. Some even called as early as 7:43 a.m. The author repeated the phrase "I'm really going crazy" at the beginning and end of the post, showing how stressed he was.

Netizens' reactions to the post were mixed. Most sided with the author and criticized the parents. They condemned the parents' "overprotection," saying things like, "Are you going to follow your child around forever?" and "At this point, homeschooling would be more appropriate." They also pointed out that children whose parents do not accompany them might feel left out.

On the other hand, some netizens sympathized with the parents in the story. They argued, "Parents wouldn't do this just because they want to; the world is so harsh these days," or "Isn't this a mother's love?" expressing understanding of the parents' behavior.

One commenter revealed that the story was from a friend who is an elementary school teacher, sharing, "When they went on a field trip to Lotte World, the kids' mothers swarmed along. When a child said they didn't want to ride a ride and was not forced to, the mothers protested, asking why their child was being excluded."
