Recognition of Adult Literacy Education and Our Neighborhood Lifelong Education Activist Training Policy
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) won the ‘Good Policy Award’ and the ‘New Lifelong Educator Award’ at the 1st Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Awards hosted by the National Lifelong Learning City Council on the 26th.
The ‘Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Awards,’ held for the first time this year, is a contest designed to discover excellent policies that realize the value of lifelong learning cities and to encourage lifelong educators.
Among 189 local governments and about 70 education support offices affiliated with the National Lifelong Learning City Council, outstanding cases were selected in three categories: ▲Good Policy ▲Partnership ▲Lifelong Educator (Newcomer Award, Person Award).
Geumcheon-gu’s adult literacy education project was selected as an excellent policy for operating the ‘Differentiated Literacy Class,’ which provides continuous and diverse learning opportunities to illiterate and low-educated adults, and the ‘Digital Literacy Learning Center,’ which taught seniors how to use kiosks, smartphones, and KakaoTalk so they could enjoy digital benefits without exclusion.
In addition, the ‘Geumcheon Our Neighborhood Lifelong Education Activist Training’ project was recognized as a major achievement for operating a manager (learning planner) course and instructor (paper craft, kalimba) course for residents interested in learning-type jobs within the region, utilizing these for education targeting residents.
In the lifelong educator category, Han Eun-kyung, an officer in the Education Support Division who contributed to enhancing residents’ capabilities through innovative planning, was honored with the Newcomer Award.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “Thanks to many people who have continuously worked hard on the ground to revitalize lifelong education, we were able to receive this award. We will continue to plan and implement better policies for Geumcheon, a lifelong learning city that grows together with residents by enjoying and sharing through learning.”
