This training was prepared to prepare for water accidents caused by ice breaking during winter, and was conducted especially to cultivate rescue capabilities such as lifesaving and accident handling at depths of over 30 meters.

The training was focused on the rapid response team for water accidents, composed of 12 underwater diving experts from each fire station.

On the first day of training, they focused on safety accident prevention education, how to use dive tables, underwater search, and mastering the use of specialized deep-sea equipment such as double tanks. On the second day, they conducted deep water adaptation training and emergency response drills at Yongdamho Lake.

The participating rescue team members are diving experts who hold technical diving instructor qualifications and have directly participated in underwater searches for the Sewol ferry disaster. They are expected to be quickly deployed for lifesaving operations in case of water accidents in deep areas such as Yongdamho, Donghwaho, and Buan Dam within the province.

Furthermore, the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters expects that by utilizing the specialized water rescue personnel pool, they will be able to cultivate winter water rescue capabilities and learn professional rescue techniques, enabling efficient rescue operations in special rescue situations.

Chief Choi Mincheol of the Fire Headquarters said, “Winter water accident sites have many variables such as temperature and ice conditions, so initial response ability and teamwork are very important. We will do our best to protect the safety of the residents by responding quickly to accidents through seasonal customized training.”
