The forum was attended by about 150 people, including Chairman Shin Jeong-hoon of the provincial party committee, party-affiliated basic and metropolitan council members, officials in charge of population policy from the province, cities, and counties, and members of the Namdo Regional Innovation Policy Planning Group (hereinafter referred to as the Policy Planning Group).

At the forum, which was prepared to respond to Jeonnam’s population crisis and local extinction, in-depth discussions were held on the trends and characteristics of population changes in the Jeonnam region, diagnosis of population policies of Jeonnam Province and its cities and counties, supplementary matters related to the Special Act on Support for Population Declining Areas and the Local Extinction Response Fund project, as well as strategic responses, policy improvements, and supplementary measures.

In addition, legal and institutional requirements related to the improvement of the enforcement decree of the Special Act on Support for Population Declining Areas at the Democratic Party level and the operation of the Local Extinction Response Fund project, as well as measures to strengthen active support from the central government to overcome the population crisis, were also discussed.

At the forum, the need to strengthen Jeollanam-do’s role in strategy, planning, and coordination related to the population crisis and local extinction, as well as the necessity of promoting proactive administration to enhance the responsiveness of each city and county in the Jeonnam region, was raised.

Chairman Shin Jeong-hoon of the provincial party committee said, “The population decline and local extinction crisis in Jeonnam is a long-standing and urgent task for our region,” and expressed his determination, saying, “We will work closely with the central government to find proactive solutions at the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee level.”

He added, “I deeply thank the many members who worked hard to prepare the first forum of the Policy Planning Group, and I ask for continuous efforts so that Jeonnam-type livelihood policies can be realized.”

Meanwhile, the Policy Planning Group was formed and launched in December last year with young metropolitan and basic council members affiliated with the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee and external experts, and held its first policy forum on this day to develop ‘Democratic Party-style specialized policies for Jeonnam’ and to transform into a policy party committee through this.
