Muan-gun Holds Presentation on Development Plan for Suryeon Village

Enthusiastic Competition from Elementary Students to People in Their 70s

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Jeollanam-do Muan-gun (Governor Kim San) held the ‘2023 9th Happy Muan Suryun Village Development Plan Presentation’ on the 26th at Seungdal Culture and Arts Center, attended by leaders and over 120 residents from five villages.

According to the county on the 27th, the Suryun Village creation is a resident-led participation program unique to Muan-gun, where residents themselves, with the help of an expert facilitator, conduct village resource surveys, draw village maps, and discover village development tasks to establish plans by envisioning short-term (5 years later) and long-term (10 years later) development visions.

At the presentation, residents of various age groups, from elementary school students to people in their 70s, participated and held a passionate competition.

In particular, Oh Chan-sik, the general affairs officer who participated as a development committee member of Gye-du Village in Samhyang-eup, expressed his thoughts, saying, “It was a very enjoyable and happy experience to design the future of the village together with the elders.”

As a result of the presentation, Dangwolchon Village in Juksan 3-ri, Illo-eup, presented the village vision under the theme ‘The Return of the King Embracing the Scent of Moonlight’ and won the prestigious grand prize, securing 50 million KRW in project funds.

Additionally, Sangjakchon Village in Cheonggye-myeon won the excellence award with 30 million KRW, Songsan Village in Samhyang-eup won the merit award with 20 million KRW, and Gye-du and Songsan Villages in Samhyang-eup each secured 10 million KRW.

The project funds will be invested in village-related projects such as small parks, flower path cultivation, and vacant lot maintenance through resident meetings by December, and each village will be granted the qualification to promote an autonomous village development project worth 500 million KRW starting next year after gaining experience in small projects.

Governor Kim San said, “Through the resident-led Happy Muan Suryun Village creation project, we will spare no support to strengthen the community’s capabilities and create a Muan where both urban and rural areas are happy,” adding, “It is expected to be an opportunity to revitalize villages by improving rural spaces.”

Meanwhile, this presentation can be viewed on Muan-gun’s YouTube channel, and plans are underway to expand publicity and contact points through various channels such as SNS so that many residents can participate in future major project briefings.
