A Series of Suspected Crimes Related to Knockout Game Occur
An incident known as the so-called 'knockout game' occurred in Rome, the capital of Italy, prompting local media to issue warnings.
The knockout game is a criminal game where a passerby with no prior acquaintance is knocked down, often perpetrated by delinquent youths. In particular, since the crime happens so quickly, most victims are unable to remember the appearance of the assailant.
According to local media such as Roma Today on the 26th (local time), around 8 p.m. on the 20th, a man suddenly assaulted a woman walking in the Quadraro area in southeastern Rome. The woman fell to the ground due to the sudden attack, but fortunately, her bag acted as a buffer, preventing a concussion.
Witnesses reported that the man, who appeared to be a teenager, suddenly approached the woman and swung his arm like a tennis swing, punching her in the face. It is also known that the assailant did not touch the woman’s belongings and disappeared immediately after the assault.
The police are investigating with a focus on the possibility of the knockout game, based on the fact that there was no argument between the two before the incident. It has been reported that similar incidents have occurred several times in Italy in recent years.
Previously, the knockout game also emerged as a serious social issue in the United States and Europe. In 2020, a video spread showing a man in Malm?, southern Sweden, suddenly attacking and knocking down a passerby for no reason, causing public outrage.
