Audi Unveils Coupe-Style CUV 'Active Sphere Concept'

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Audi unveiled the coupe-type crossover utility vehicle (CUV) 'Active Sphere Concept' on the 27th. It is the fourth concept vehicle in the Sphere series, showcasing Audi's future direction for the luxury segment.

The Active Sphere Concept, revealed by Audi this time, was developed at the Audi Design Studio located in Malibu, USA. It features electric drive based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and fast-charging technology, enabling a driving range of over 600 km.

Additionally, it uses mixed reality functions to connect real and virtual spaces into one. Audi's autonomous driving technology, 'Audi Dimension,' provides real-time digital content. When users focus their eyes on virtual content, the system offers more detailed information, and customized content is provided according to the individual needs of the driver and passengers.

The Audi Active Sphere is based on Audi's electric drive system, the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). It is equipped with a 100kWh battery capacity, and the all-wheel-drive Audi Active Sphere Concept delivers 325 kW of power and 720 Nm of torque.

Models applying PPE support 800V charging technology, allowing charging at up to 270 kW in just a few minutes at fast charging stations, enabling a driving range of over 300 km with 10 minutes of charging. Also, the 100kWh battery installed in the Audi Active Sphere takes about 25 minutes to charge up to 80%.

The exterior design is crafted as a dynamic yet elegant coupe. The shape can be altered to increase cargo space when necessary. A transparent rear window slide rises over the roof to expand the luggage area. This space, called the Active Back, also includes a bracket for an electric bike.

Gael Bujin, Audi Studio Manager, said, "The Audi Active Sphere is a new type of crossover coupe vehicle that combines the elegance of an Audi Sportback, the practicality of a sport utility vehicle (SUV), and off-road capabilities evenly."
