[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) continues to receive donations and contributions to help neighbors have a warm winter.


On the 26th, Jungnang-gu announced that it received 131 bags of 10kg white rice from local small business owner Hwang Gyu-min and Hyosarang Volunteer Association (President Seo Byung-il), and 5.2 million KRW in donations from the Sinnae 1-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee (Chairman Choi Seong-hwan).


The district plans to donate the received money and goods to the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, distributing the rice to 131 senior centers in the area and supporting low-income households in Sinnae 1-dong with the donations.


Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “The donations and contributions you sent will be a great help for neighbors in need to spend a warm winter,” and added, “We thank the Hyosarang Volunteer Association and the Sinnae 1-dong Residents' Autonomous Committee for their warm hearts.”

Dobong-gu Receives ‘Warm Winter’ Donations from Dobong-gu Daycare Center Association



Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) received 25.33 million KRW in donations on the 19th from the Dobong-gu Daycare Center Association (including public, private, and home daycare centers) for the ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ campaign.


This donation was raised through the ‘Dobongi & Hope’ piggy bank fundraising campaign at 170 daycare centers in Dobong-gu and will be delivered to neighbors in need.


A representative of the Dobong-gu Daycare Center Association said, “The donations collected by children with angelic hearts are hoped to convey the children’s warm feelings to neighbors in need.”


Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “It is meaningful that children, the future saplings of our society, participated directly in the fundraising. I thank the Dobong-gu Daycare Center Association for joining the warm sharing in the community again this year.”

Seoul Jung-gu’s 2023 Warm Winter Support Reaches 1.1039 Billion KRW So Far

Despite Economic Downturn, Support Continues from Organizations and Local Businesses Thinking of Neighbors in Need



Despite facing a harsh winter due to the COVID-19 aftermath and economic recession, the hearts thinking of neighbors in need remained warm.


Seoul Jung-gu (Mayor Kim Gil-seong), together with the Community Chest of Korea, has received a total of 421.93 million KRW in cash and 678.46 million KRW in goods, totaling 1.1039 billion KRW in support for the ‘2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project.


Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd. and Paradise Co., Ltd. each generously donated 50 million KRW to support vulnerable groups in the area, extending warmth despite difficult times.


The Saemaeul Geumgo Myeongdong Branch donated 45 million KRW. The donations will be used for health products for vulnerable groups and social welfare facility improvement projects.


Donations also continued to the underprivileged living in poor conditions in gosiwon (small rooms). The Korea Financial Research Institute provided hygiene products such as tissues and wet wipes to 400 households, and Yeouido Full Gospel Church Namdaemun Sanctuary delivered thick winter blankets to 180 people.


Concerns about winter kimchi were also eased. Lotte Department Store distributed 5kg kimchi to 550 people, and Yeongnak Church provided kimchi to 450 people. DGB Capital shared 10kg kimchi with 430 neighbors in need.


As Lunar New Year approached, sharing continued especially for isolated vulnerable groups. Merchants from the yellow tent street in Dongdaemun area collectively donated 6.9 million KRW. Paper Nara, Hotel Shilla, and individual donor Kim Han-sul also contributed food and rice.


In addition, support has been continuously coming from various places including Korea Capital, BC Card Love Sharing Club (volunteer activity club), Jung-gu Parish Council, Mugunghwa Welfare World, Inally, Korea Mutual Savings Banks Association, and Seoul Chamber of Commerce Jung-gu Business Association.


Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “I am grateful for the strong and warm support that drives away the cold,” and added, “We will continue to actively support providing essential help to neighbors in need through cooperation with the private sector.”

Geumcheon-gu Recruiting Participants for Traditional Fermented Sauce Making and Healthy Food Programs



Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) is recruiting participants for the ‘Geumcheon Jangdokdae’ program from January 30 to February 1.


The ‘Geumcheon Jangdokdae’ program was established to promote the excellence of traditional Korean fermented sauces (jang) and to spread awareness about healthy eating through making jang, which is the foundation of Korean cuisine.


This year, a new ‘Family Jangdokdae’ program has been added, allowing families including children and parents to participate together. For children, it is expected to help form healthy eating habits through hands-on educational experiences tailored to their level.


The program will accept a total of 200 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Any Geumcheon-gu resident interested in traditional jang making can participate. Those wishing to join must first apply by phone, then visit the Obesity Clinic on the 3rd floor of the Health Center to fill out an application and pay the material fee.


The Geumcheon Jangdokdae, held three times in total, will be conducted with a nutritionist at the Sky Garden on the 6th floor of the Geumcheon-gu Health Center. The schedule includes ‘Making Jang’ in February, ‘Separating Doenjang and Ganjang’ in April, and ‘Sharing Jang’ in October. The ‘Family Jangdokdae’ program will be held on weekends to allow all family members to participate.


Participants who complete all three sessions?‘Making Jang,’ ‘Separating Jang,’ and ‘Sharing Jang’?will be able to take home the doenjang and ganjang they made themselves.


Yoo Sung-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope this traditional jang making experience will be a time to understand and love our unique food,” and added, “In these busy times when gathering for meals is difficult, I hope the time spent making jang together will be an opportunity to reflect on the health of oneself and family.”
