Prosecution Seeks 3-Year Prison Sentence Again in Appeal Trial for Yonsei University Medical Student in 'Female Restroom Hidden Camera' Case

On the 26th, at the sentencing hearing held under the presiding of Chief Judge Choi Eunju of the 1-2 Criminal Appeals Division at the Seoul Western District Court, the prosecution demanded a three-year prison sentence for the Yonsei University medical student A. This is the same amount as the prosecution's demand in the previous trial. The prosecution also requested the court to order 40 hours of sexual violence treatment program completion and a five-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.

On the day, A's defense attorney stated in the final argument, "The defendant admits all charges and is remorseful," adding, "The filmed material was not distributed, and efforts were made to reach an agreement with one person. Please consider the donation made for the installation of emergency bells at the alma mater."

A was charged with secretly filming female students in the adjacent stall 32 times with a mobile phone in the women's restroom of Yonsei University Medical School four times in June and July last year. Previously, the first trial court sentenced him to one year in prison, stating, "Anyone can become a target of illegal filming without knowing it," and "Since the victim attends the same school, she suffers from betrayal, sexual shame, and mental shock, making recovery difficult."

A's second trial sentencing date is scheduled for the 13th of next month.
