On the 26th, Governor Shim personally attended the retirement ceremony of Yang Doohan, head of the Information Security and Foreign Affairs Division at Imsil Police Station, and presented a plaque of appreciation in the name of the governor of Imsil-gun on behalf of the local residents.
The event began with the presentation of the Imsil-gun governor’s plaque of appreciation to express gratitude for the efforts to maintain peace and order in Imsil-gun, followed by an introduction of the career, presentation of plaques of appreciation to cooperating organizations, congratulatory remarks, and commemorative photos.
It is very unusual for a local organization leader to personally attend the retirement ceremony of a police officer in the jurisdiction and present a plaque of appreciation, highlighting the active efforts to mediate and resolve various local issues during the officer’s tenure.
Notably, around 2019, when local conflicts intensified over the contaminated soil treatment business (import purification facility) in Sindeok-myeon, Imsil-gun, he earnestly listened to the opinions of the parties involved and local residents, proposed mediation plans, and took the lead in resolving the issue, greatly contributing to conflict resolution.
Additionally, at the Imsil N Cheese Festival, which has grown into a representative festival of South Korea, he took charge of inspecting the traffic safety system, including traffic flow and parking areas, to prepare for visitors’ traffic safety and incidents, ensuring thorough measures.
Thanks to these efforts, the Imsil N Cheese Festival, which attracted 520,000 visitors as of 2022, was successfully held without major incidents by focusing on preventing and responding to safety accidents involving children and the elderly.
Governor Shim said, “I express my gratitude for the efforts to mediate and resolve various local issues and conflicts and for taking the lead in maintaining traffic order and preventing incidents at the festival that attracted numerous people. I hope you will continue to work together for the development of your hometown Imsil even after retirement.”
Director Yang responded, “I only fulfilled my duties, but receiving such a plaque of appreciation makes me feel great pride in my 36 years of police service. It was an honor to dedicate myself to serving the local residents in my hometown Imsil, and even after leaving my post, I will contribute in any small way to the development of my hometown.”
