According to the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education on the 26th, among 13,995 students from 91 schools in the province?including 88 general high schools, 1 autonomous high school, and 2 specialized high schools?12,596 were admitted to universities through the 2023 academic year early admission process.

Regarding universities in the Seoul metropolitan area, 227 students were admitted to four major Seoul universities: Seoul National University with 45, Yonsei University with 63, Korea University with 77, and Ewha Womans University with 42. Including other metropolitan universities, a total of 2,305 students were admitted.

Initially, Seoul National University admitted about 119 students in the first stage of the early admission process, but only 45 registered as 74 students who preferred medical and pharmaceutical fields did not enroll despite being admitted.

Among these, some private high schools in the Jeonnam region attracted attention by achieving remarkable results in this year’s university entrance exams.

In particular, schools such as Mokpo Hyein Girls' High School, Naju Yeongsan High School, and Hwasun High School were recognized as centers for nurturing local talent through excellent curriculum management.

Mokpo Hyein Girls' High School, a private high school established in 1967 in Jukgyo-dong, Mokpo City, currently has 453 students enrolled and consistently produces 3 to 4 Seoul National University admittees annually.

This year, Hyein Girls' High School had 3 students admitted to Seoul National University, 4 to Yonsei University and Korea University, 6 to education universities, and 24 to 11 major universities in Seoul, demonstrating a successful case of a customized curriculum.

Also, Naju Yeongsan High School, a small school with 222 students, achieved the remarkable feat of producing Seoul National University admittees for the first time in 11 years. In this year’s early admission, Yeongsan High School produced admittees across various fields: 3 in medicine, 4 in Yonsei University and Korea University, 1 in pharmacy, 1 in Korea Electric Power Energy Engineering University, and 31 in metropolitan universities.

In rural areas, Hwasun High School raised the status of agricultural and fishing village schools by producing 2 Seoul National University admittees.

Scholarship Officer Yang Hoe-ryong stated, “In this year’s CSAT, Jeonnam ranked 14th in Korean language among 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education, improving by two steps compared to last year, and the standard score rose by 1.5 points to 93.9.”

He added, “Currently, Superintendent Kim Dae-jung is planning a Career and College Counseling Center for systematic learning management of Jeonnam students. If systematic learning management is implemented from elementary and middle school stages through the counseling center, it is expected to greatly help university admissions.”
