Carrying 6-Year-Old Up Hallasan... Lee Si-young Responds to Safety Concerns, "My Son Also Said He Liked It"

Lee Si-young "It Was My Own Bucket List"
This Year Is the 'Last Chance' Before Exceeding 20kg

Actress Lee Si-young clarified concerns about safety negligence that arose after climbing Hallasan with her 6-year-old son.

On the 23rd, Lee Si-young uploaded a video titled "Challenging the New Year's Sunrise Hike on Hallasan Yeongsil Course with Jeong-yoon" on her YouTube channel 'Lee Si-young's Sweat Tea.' She said, "Jeong-yoon and I went to the Hallasan Yeongsil Course to welcome the New Year's sunrise," adding, "I can stop if I get tired, but Jeong-yoon's condition and other factors are unpredictable, so I was nervous about any possible variables."

She explained, "Since I'm a mom, my child's mood is very important, so I kept asking, 'Are you cold?' I couldn't even make any comments in between; I was really focused only on Jeong-yoon." She also added, "Even though we couldn't reach the summit, it was the happiest day of 2022, and I think I'll never forget it."

Regarding the reason for climbing Hallasan with her son, she said, "It was my personal bucket list," and explained, "If I waited until Jeong-yoon could climb Hallasan on his own, I would have to wait at least five years, but since I am getting older, this year was the last chance before he exceeds 20kg to carry him on my back."

In particular, she said, "It might be my selfishness, but I thought I had to go this year," and revealed her future plans, "I asked Jeong-yoon ten times, and he said 'yes' all ten times. Afterward, Jeong-yoon said it was 'so good and actually not cold.' Next time, we plan to start slowly with lower mountains that we can hike on foot."

Earlier, Lee Si-young successfully climbed Hallasan carrying her 6-year-old son Jeong-yoon, who weighs 20kg, on her back. However, controversy arose over whether carrying the child up the snowy mountain was a mother's selfishness that did not consider the child's condition, sparking a debate about 'safety negligence.'

The fire department urges special caution for winter mountain hiking compared to other seasons.

In winter, since the sun sets early, hikers must descend before sunset, wear windproof, thermal, and waterproof clothing, and carry extra socks and gloves.

In case of an accident, it is best to inform 119 of the mountain location marker number, maintain body temperature, and avoid leaving the accident site.

Also, turning on the smartphone GPS function during the hike allows the fire department to quickly identify the rescue location in case of an accident.
