Songpa-gu Holds ‘Block King Contest’ for Youth… Participants Recruitment from February 2 to 11
The First Block King Contest Theme is ‘Songpa-gu’s New Characters Haha and Hoho’… Planned to Operate with Various Themes from February to November
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is operating the ‘2023 Creativity King! Block King! Youth Jjang! Block King Contest’ themed on Songpa-gu’s new characters ‘Haha and Hoho’.
The first Block King contest theme, Songpa-gu’s new characters Haha and Hoho, was born through storytelling about the historical significance of the host city of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Hodori and Hosuni, who worked part-time as the official mascots in 1988, met again during the 2002 World Cup street cheering, fell in love, got married, and gave birth to babies who are now loved by many residents.
The district planned a non-face-to-face Lego King contest to support cultural experience activities where busy students can freely express their creativity and imagination without spatial constraints.
Youth aged 9 to 16 residing in Songpa-gu can participate. Participants create models of Haha and Hoho using the toy ‘Lego’ and submit them via the Songpa-gu Jamsil Youth Center KakaoTalk channel ‘Jamcheongsen’. For youths who wish to participate but do not have Lego, the Songpa-gu Jamsil Youth Center will provide a free Lego rental service.
The recruitment period is from February 2 to February 11.
The six or so ‘Block Kings’ selected by combining online votes and staff votes will be announced on March 7 on the Songpa-gu Jamsil Youth Center website.
The district plans to hold four non-face-to-face ‘Block King’ contests with new themes in February, May, August, and October this year. Block Kings selected by monthly voting will have the opportunity to participate in the November King of Kings competition, where three winners?Lego King, King, and Jjang?will be selected and awarded certificates and prizes.
For more details, please visit the Songpa-gu Jamsil Youth Center website.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I hope youths will showcase their talents and capabilities with their own creative perspectives through the Block King contest,” adding, “We will continue to discover and hold various youth cultural events to create a city where culture and arts can be enjoyed.”
