[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the morning of the 24th that it has taken measures to slow down some KTX trains to speeds of 170 to 230 km/h in sections of the Gyeongbu and Honam high-speed lines affected by strong winds and heavy snowfall.
KORAIL held an emergency safety meeting at its Daejeon headquarters on the same day to review safety measures in various fields including safety and passenger services.
KORAIL is conducting safety inspections on track welding joints vulnerable to cold waves, rail joints, switches, and curved sections, and is operating train and station heating systems at maximum capacity to minimize customer inconvenience.
Additionally, to prevent slip accidents caused by icing, snow removal work and guidance have been strengthened for customer facilities such as staircases.
A KORAIL official stated, "We will do our best to minimize damage caused by cold waves and heavy snowfall to ensure the safe return of the public and a smooth commute on the 25th."
