Cold Wave Comprehensive Support Situation Room Operates 24 Hours... Focused Care for Vulnerable Groups Such as Elderly and Homeless During Lunar New Year Holiday
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) activated the 'Cold Wave Countermeasure Comprehensive Support Situation Room' and held an emergency meeting on the 24th to check major situations following the issuance of a cold wave warning across Seoul.
Previously, from the 23rd, the district has been operating a comprehensive situation room 24 hours a day, composed of four teams: Situation Management, Welfare Measures, Visiting Health, and Public Relations & Administrative Support, to respond to the cold wave.
They provide cold wave-related action guidelines and real-time disaster alerts through SNS platforms such as blogs, Facebook, and Instagram.
Especially on the 24th, with the Seoul perceived temperature dropping to minus 26°C, an emergency meeting was held to check the overall situation management system including protection of vulnerable groups and status of frozen pipes, to identify any shortcomings.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, 160 disaster helpers call elderly living alone to check on their wellbeing, and if calls are unanswered, they visit in person to ensure safety. For homeless protection, cold wave inspections have been completed at five homeless facilities, and vulnerable locations such as parks and subway stations are continuously monitored. Health status of vulnerable groups including the disabled is also regularly checked through welfare calls.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung said, “As the severe cold with perceived temperatures below minus 20°C is expected until the 25th, we will mobilize all our capabilities to ensure that those in need of care do not experience any inconvenience.”
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Holds Emergency Meeting and Inspects Cold Wave Countermeasures on the 24th

At the meeting, Mayor Park received reports on ▲cold wave response status by department ▲homeless safety management ▲welfare checks for cold wave vulnerable groups ▲water pipe freezing ▲various incidents and accidents, and urged proactive measures to minimize damage.
He also ordered focused actions through the situation room to monitor in real time any cold wave-related issues affecting vulnerable groups such as the homeless during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
Mayor Park Kang-su said, “With the severe cold expected to continue until tomorrow, I urge thorough preparation for cold wave response, including safety management of vulnerable groups and facilities, without any negligence.”
