GPT-4 Release Anticipated in First Half of the Year

At the end of last year, AI research company OpenAI launched ChatGPT. It attracted over 1 million users within just five days of its release. It is gaining attention as a technology that could weaken Google's dominance in the search market.

OpenAI plans to unveil GPT-4 in the first half of this year. Leading global IT companies have announced plans and investments in LLM development. Eugene Investment & Securities advised paying close attention to IT companies actively developing LLM and firms possessing related technologies.

The size of LLMs has recently increased tenfold every year. Accordingly, their capabilities are rapidly expanding. Automatic translation chatbots and voice assistants are representative AI services based on large language models. A typical example of an LLM is GPT. GPT stands for ‘Generative Pre-trained Transformer.’ Literally translated, it means a generative pre-trained transformer. The Transformer is a language model announced by Google in 2017 that predicts the next text when given some text, enabling text generation. One of the representative GPT technologies is related search terms on Naver or Google.

OpenAI’s language models are the GPT series. Last year, they released the conversational model ChatGPT. Eugene Investment & Securities expects GPT-4, which OpenAI is likely to launch in the first half of this year, to have a significant impact surpassing previous models.

Although there is limited information available, GPT-4 is reported to have passed the Turing test. The Turing test evaluates how naturally a computer can communicate with humans. To date, no AI model has officially passed the Turing test.

Eugene Investment & Securities believes that if GPT-4 has passed the Turing test, it will have an impact considered a 'technological terror' not only in the AI industry but across the entire industrial sector. GPT-4 is speculated to be a multimodal model with 100 trillion parameters. It will have the ability to read and write, as well as simultaneously recognize images and videos. This means a model will emerge that can recognize any form of information?text, photos, videos, or coding?and generate text, photos, videos, or program code accordingly.

Parameters function like the brain synapses of AI. The more parameters there are, the greater the scalability of GPT, ranging from simple translation to program coding.
