[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A large-scale shooting incident occurred again at a nightclub in Louisiana, following a mass shooting near Los Angeles (LA) in the small city of Monterey Park that left 10 people dead.
According to the Associated Press and other sources, a shooting took place at the Dior Bar & Lounge nightclub in Baton Rouge at around 1:30 a.m. on the 22nd, injuring 12 people. Among them, one person is reported to be in critical condition.
At the time of the shooting, many students from three universities?Louisiana State University, Southern University, and A&M College?were holding a back-to-school party at the club.
Murphy Paul, chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department, said at a press conference that afternoon that the shooting appeared to be a crime targeting a specific individual, stating, "According to initial investigations, this was not a random act of violence."
He added, "It is presumed that other injuries occurred during the process of shooting at a specific target."
He also said, "We know many people want information related to this incident, but we need to resolve this issue first, so we cannot provide information immediately."
At the time of the incident, three police officers from Baton Rouge were near the nightclub, and thanks to their prompt response, including administering first aid at the scene, further casualties were prevented.
Just three hours before the shooting that day, a mass shooting occurred at 'Star Dance,' a dance studio located in Monterey Park, where many Chinese and other Asian residents live, resulting in a total of 10 deaths and 10 injuries.
