Expansion of safety and convenience facilities with an investment of 5 billion KRW
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that ‘Yulchon Sodeongi Port’ has been finally selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ ‘2023 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Contest Project.’
A total of about 5 billion KRW, including 3.5 billion KRW in national funds, will be invested in the Yulchon Sodeongi Port district over three years starting in 2023.
The city plans to invest the project budget in expanding port safety and convenience facilities such as constructing breakwaters, installing floating docks, and renovating the Sodeongi (Sotttukgeong) resting area to ensure safe fishing operations and improve the quality of life for fishermen in Yulchon Sodeongi Port.

As a result, the Yulchon Sodeongi Port district is expected to develop into a ‘Safer Port, Happier Fishing Village.’
The head of the Yulchon Sodeongi Port Fishing Village Association expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank the city officials who helped us get selected for the contest project,” and added, “We will actively cooperate in promoting the project to make the village happy and safe.”
Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, said, “I deeply thank all the fishing village associations who actively participated in this contest, and I will do my best to discover distinctive projects so that more projects can be selected in the 2024 Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Contest.”
The ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion’ project is a key initiative of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries launched in 2023 with the vision of ‘Vibrant Fishing Villages, Desirable Fishing Villages’ to revive fishing villages facing extinction.
