[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, on the 20th, issued instructions for safety management in response to the cold wave warning issued for 19 cities and counties in the province.
Gyeonggi Province announced that it urgently transmitted a written notice containing the governor's instructions for snow and cold wave preparedness to 31 cities and counties in the province that afternoon.
In the official letter, Governor Kim said, "With the Lunar New Year holiday approaching, there are concerns about road icing due to the sudden drop in temperature and damage to vulnerable groups caused by the cold wave," and urged, "Please operate emergency response systems in each city and county and thoroughly manage safety."
He especially requested, "Since vehicle traffic is heavy during the Lunar New Year, please ensure flawless safety management by pre-applying de-icing agents and strengthening patrols in habitual icing areas such as roads in front of tunnels and near bridges where road icing is expected."
He continued, "In December 2020, during a cold wave, a foreign worker tragically died in a vinyl greenhouse accommodation in Pocheon City," emphasizing, "Please prevent recurrence of damage to vulnerable residential groups by conducting pre-inspections of residential vinyl greenhouses in preparation for the cold wave."
Additionally, Governor Kim instructed ▲ strengthening publicity to prevent water meter freezing and prompt on-site measures and recovery support systems in case of damage ▲ using promotional means such as electronic signboards and websites of the province and cities/counties to quickly deliver weather information, advice on reducing speed to prepare for icy roads, and cold wave health management measures.
Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration has currently issued a cold wave warning for 19 cities and counties in the province, including Dongducheon City. The Meteorological Administration forecasts that morning temperatures in the province will drop to as low as -22.0℃ on the 24th and 25th.
